Most digital tools and platforms often get a bad rap, but we often overlook one very important thing: it’s what we use and how we use it that matters. There are a lot of useful apps out there that can help you develop better habits and lead a more productive and well-balanced lifestyle.
In this article, I’ll share some of them with you. These apps are some that I’ve personally tried and tested, and found to be quite effective.
Most of them are free and require nothing more than a fast and reliable internet connection. If you’re looking for one, I recommend reaching out to the Spectrum customer service, and they’ll help you pick a plan based on your needs and usage.
Now, let’s take a look!
Habitica
- Available For: iOS, Android, Web
- Price: $4.99 (one month), $14.99 (three months), $29.99 (six months), $47.99 (one year)
Most apps take a very basic and boring approach to helping you develop good habits, but not Habitica, which is why it’s my favorite. This app can help you develop positive habits such as proactivity, responsibility, and accountability, but in an engaging, gamified sort of way.
The app runs on the age-old, simple yet effective concept of rewarding good behavior and punishing negative behavior. How it works is that it turns daily to-do tasks, activities, and good habits into games, where you’re rewarded for the ones you win, and punished for those you can’t.
You play as a character, and with every achievement, you’re awarded points and gold that you can use to level up or buy in-game items. You also have the freedom to choose the rewards you want to motivate yourself more and turn these habits into a permanent part of your life.
Habitify
- Available For: iOS, Android, macOS
- Price: Free Plan, $29.99 (one year), $59.99 (lifetime)
This one’s quite good at helping you develop and monitor positive habits, and also at helping you organize your routine. Habitify allows you to allocate habits and activities to different times of the day, such as morning, afternoon, and evening. While the app offers those three, you can also customize and create your own as you see fit.
You might enjoy that the app has a bit of a social element to it as well. You can invite friends or family to join or compete against strangers in social challenges. These challenges offer an entertaining way to achieve something new and turn it into a part of your lifestyle.
One of the things I liked about this app is that it’s easily integratable with many other platforms, such as Google Fit or Apple Health, which can automate marking off tasks and allow you a more well-rounded approach to developing and tracking your habits.
Another great feature is the cross-platform availability. This means that your progress is saved regardless of the device you’re using, and you can pick up where you left off when you like. You can track all this progress with the app’s user-friendly interface.
Way of Life
- Available For: iOS, Android
- Price: Free Plan, $4.99/month for Apple users, $6.49/month for Android users
I do have to say, I love the name with this one. It’s really catchy and to the point. If you prefer a data-backed approach to each of your habits, like me, this app might just work for you. The best part is that it’s quite affordable and you only have to pay once.
The app dedicates a journal to each of your habits, and you mark each of them as Done, Not Done, or Skipped, along with a note for those not done or skipped. The app continues to collect data and identify trends that you can access through the Trends tab.
This helps you better understand and maintain your progress by identifying which habits you’re sticking to and finding ways around the reasons that prevented you from completing something. You can customize how long you’re able to maintain completing all activities, which can help you break long-term goals into shorter, simpler ones and keep your motivation intact.
Positivity – The Key to Happiness, Success, and Peace
The change begins with you.
You can either choose to spend your time browsing useless social media content that flaunts fake lifestyles or unrealistic beauty standards that make you feel worse about yourself. Or you can go towards the side of internal and external happiness, success, and peace with apps like the ones I’ve shared above.
With their free plans, availability on both Apple and Android, and rather affordable premium plans, these apps can cater to a wide range of diverse lifestyles, including yours.
So, whether you prefer a gamified approach, a journal, a data-backed approach, or a social way of improving yourself, these apps can help you embrace a healthier and more well-balanced lifestyle.
