Disposable Vape Weak Hits? Here’s How to Fix Them

One of the reasons why disposable vapes are so popular is because most people find that they provide the same satisfaction as cigarettes on a puff-for-puff basis. With that in mind, you’re going to feel pretty surprised if you try a disposable vape and find that it gives you weak hits – that’s the exact opposite of what you’re expecting.

Are you getting weak hits with a disposable vape? There are actually several possible ways to fix the problem – and contrary to what you might assume, many of the potential solutions actually don’t involve buying a new vape. Here’s what you can do.

Switch to a Higher Nicotine Strength

Vapes and vape juices are available in nicotine strengths up to 20 mg/ml, which is also sometimes marketed as 2%. If you’re not using that strength already, you should probably switch to it because that’s the strength that’s intended to provide the same satisfaction as a cigarette for a typical pack-a-day smoker. The lower strengths are for less frequent smokers or those who have already switched to vaping and want to cut back on their nicotine intake.

Already using a vape with a strength of 20 mg/ml? If so, we have plenty of other tips for you.

Take Longer Puffs

The best way to have a more satisfying experience with a disposable vape is by inhaling a bigger cloud. If you’re new to vaping, though, it’s important to make sure that you’re doing it correctly. A vape doesn’t work like a cigarette, which burns hotter when you puff harder. With a disposable vape, you need to take a long, slow puff if you want your device to produce more vapour. Try puffing almost until the light starts to blink. You’ll inhale a much larger cloud, which means that you’ll also inhale significantly more nicotine.

Open the Airflow Vent

Are you using a disposable vape with an adjustable airflow vent? If your device has adjustable airflow, you’ll find a slider on the bottom. Moving the slider adjusts the size of the intake hole. Try moving the slider to make the hole as large as possible. Opening the airflow will make it easier for to inhale more vapour per puff, which will also increase the amount of nicotine you consume.

Close the Airflow Vent

Although it might seem counterintuitive, closing a disposable vape’s airflow vent can also potentially alleviate weak hits depending on what it is about the experience that you’re interpreting as weak.

When a vape’s airflow vent is fully open, you’re inhaling a significant amount of air in addition to the vapour. Since air doesn’t taste like anything, it dilutes the flavour of your vape. The air also cools the vapour, which makes it feel less intense. Try closing the vent a little to enjoy warmer, more intense clouds with stronger throat hit. If your vape doesn’t have an adjustable airflow vent, you can also achieve a similar effect by blocking the vent partially with your finger.

Try a Different Flavour

Did you know that some vape flavours are more intense than others? Many modern disposable vapes have at least a little menthol, which enhances the smoothness but can also mask the throat hit that you might expect if you’re a smoker and have just switched to vaping. Many disposable vapes contain menthol even if they don’t have words like “ice” in their flavour names, so it’s worthwhile to read user reviews and look out for flavours that don’t include added coolants. You can also try a tobacco-flavoured vape, which most likely won’t contain menthol.

If you’re already using a disposable vape without menthol and still aren’t satisfied, try looking for a flavour that doesn’t include added sweeteners. The majority of the disposable vapes sold today are quite sweet because most vapers enjoy sweet flavours. Like menthol, though, sweeteners can mask the throat hit that you’re looking for if you want a more intense experience.

Try a Dual-Coil Vape

If you’ve tried all of the suggestions in this article and still aren’t having a satisfying experience with your current vape brand in any flavour, it’s time to consider stepping up to a vape that offers a bit more power.

Many modern disposable vapes have dual-coil designs and can operate at two different power levels. At the lower level, the device uses just one coil at a time and switches between the coils on each hit. At the higher level, both coils are active at the same time – which means you’ll get twice as much vapour. Do keep in mind, though, that using a disposable vape in the dual-coil mode will also reduce the number of puffs that you’ll get out of the device by half.

Switch to a Refillable Vape

If you find that you can’t get a satisfying hit out of a disposable vape regardless of what you do, it’s time to consider the possibility that disposable vapes aren’t really for you at all. Refillable vapes may not be quite as convenient as disposables, but many of them are designed with new vapers in mind and really aren’t as difficult to use as you might think. All that you need to do is keep your pod or tank full and recharge the battery when it dies. You’ll also need to replace your device’s pod or coil every week or so when the flavour starts to change.

Switching to a refillable vape has many benefits, and the biggest benefit is that you’ll find the experience dramatically more satisfying. Refillable vapes have higher flavour quality than disposable devices, and they can also produce significantly more vapour – which means you’ll enjoy bigger, more intense hits. It’s becoming increasingly common for even the smallest pod-based vapes to offer adjustable power and airflow, which means that you’ll have no problem enjoying your perfect puff. Having a refillable vape also means that you can use any bottled e-liquid on the market, so you can explore all of the different flavours until you find the one that’s perfect for you.
